The
Department
of Corrections is also migrating from a WANG system to a PC-based
client/sever system. In addition, the Probation and Parole Tracking System
provided a critical link between the computer databases of the various Probation
and Parole offices that were previously isolated. The new Probation and Parole
network will be interfaced with RILETS in early 2000, which will make a wealth
of probation and parole data available system-wide. The upgraded Probation and
Parole system will provide such offender data as: current court charges; final
disposition status including sentence length and end date; and probation and
parole status including a record of violations, related hearings and sentence
amendments. The availability of this detailed information will greatly enhance
the decision-making abilities of judges, probation and parole workers, and law
enforcement.
Finally, the
Department
of Corrections is creating an imaging system (mug shots, fingerprints,
documents, etc.) to feed the J-Link network. Implementation of the imaging
system will coincide with the completion of the Howard Complex LAN and the
conversion of existing PACE applications to ORACLEŽ. The
Department
of Corrections will purchase the requisite equipment to continue its
conversion from WANG to PCs and provide critical training for MIS staff. The
imaging project is slated for an early 2000 completion.
