Ultimately, the Department of Children, Youth
and Families (DCYF) will have a seamless interface with the Family Court and to
the state's BCI for interchange of crucial juvenile/criminal information. Plans
for the interface of DCYF with Justice Link will be solidified after the new
court case management system is operational. The issue of the confidentiality
and availability of juveniles records will be of critical importance in
finalizing DCYF's participation in J-Link. DCYF had received Byrne funding for
four years to establish an automated case tracking system (RITRACK) for the RI
Training School for Youth, the state's only secure juvenile detention facility.
The system has allowed the Training School to automate many of its paper
records. Currently, Training School staff are learning to use the RI Children's
Information System (RICHIST), the department-wide computer system. RICHIST will
eventually replace RITRACK at the RI Training School for Youth allowing DCYF to
have all juvenile information on a single computer system.
