In addition to delinquency prevention activities, the Juvenile
Justice Advisory Committee has addressed generally and specifically the
issue of youth gang violence as it affects the State of Rhode Island.
R.I.G.L. 42-46-18 creates within the RIJC a gang violence prevention
advisory committee. The purpose of the committee is to coordinate,
review, purpose and oversee gang prevention, intervention and
suppression programs on a state level.
The JJAC has funded programs to specifically address youth in high
risk gang related areas. These programs are the Indo Chinese Advocacy
Project - IAC After-School and the South East Asian Development
Corporation - Aftercare/Intervention Project, both of which serve the
South East Asian youth population.
