The State Justice Statistics (SJS) program for Statistical
Analysis Centers (SAC) is administered by the Bureau
of Justice Statistics (BJS) of the United
States Department of Justice. The purpose of the program is to provide
partial support to state governments for the establishment and operation of
Statistical Analysis Centers to collect, analyze, and report statistics on crime
and justice to federal, state, and local levels of government, and to share
state-level information nationally.
Since 1975, the Statistical Analysis Center of the Rhode
Island Justice Commission has performed a critical role in providing
decision-makers with information on crime and the criminal justice system. The
issues addressed by the Statistical Analysis Center span the entire criminal
justice system and include juvenile delinquency, violent crime, property crime,
and systems improvement issues.
